Before purchasing a level-2 charger, visit our Electric Vehicle Page to determine if you truly need a level-2 charger, and/or have the capacity in your home to use one. This rebate is available for the primary reason of encouraging Electric Vehicle (EV) owners to only charge during off-peak periods when the demand for electricity is lower. If you are not currently on a Time of Use rate, then a billing rate change will be required to be eligible for this rebate.
A one-time $200 bill credit per Sawnee EMC member may be issued for the installation of a level-2 charger if the following requirements are met:
- The Sawnee EMC account (meter) to which the charger is being connected must be billed under one of Sawnee’s time based rate schedules: Residential Time of Use (TU), Critical Peak Pricing (CPPR), or Plug in Electric Vehicle (PEV)
- If you are not currently on one of these rates, then you must commit to a rate change
- Visit the EV page to review the differences in these rate options
- The account must remain on the rate schedule for 12 consecutive months
- Requesting a rate change prior to 12 months billing on the rate shall result in rate adjustments for previous bills, as well as a $200 “rebate recall fee” being applied back to the account
- The car using the charger must be total electric (Hybrid vehicles do not qualify)
- Must be purchased and installed in the present year
- Must be a new 240-volt, Level-2 charger, capable of 40 amps or greater output
- Portable or second-hand units do not qualify for rebate
- The charger must be UL or ETL listed
- The following required documents are submitted:
- Receipt for the purchase of the Level-2 charger
- Specification sheet for the installed charger
- Charger cannot be standard equipment provided with vehicle from manufacturer
- Must be an upgrade to standard equipment at additional cost
- A Sawnee EMC Representative shall visually verify after the charger is installed
