Interested in getting more value from your home battery system? Sawnee EMC’s Cooperative Battery Program gives eligible members the opportunity to earn bill credits while helping support a stronger, more reliable electric system.

What Is the Cooperative Battery Program?

The Cooperative Battery Program is designed for members who have qualifying battery storage systems installed at their homes. By enrolling an eligible battery, you can help reduce demand on the electric grid during peak times while supporting reliable service for the cooperative. In return, you may receive up to $50 per kilowatt (kW) of your battery’s rated continuous discharge output as a Sawnee EMC bill credit, paid in two equal installments during May and November. You may also receive $1.00 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for energy offset by your battery during a dispatch event.

How the Program Works

  • Enroll your eligible battery system and make sure it has an active internet connection.
  • During times of high electricity demand, Sawnee EMC may schedule a limited number of dispatch events that use a portion of your battery’s stored energy to help offset your home’s energy use.
  • Whenever possible, you will receive advance notice before a dispatch event.
  • You stay in control and may opt out of an individual event, or pause participation, based on your needs and program guidelines.

Do I Qualify?

  • Are you a Sawnee EMC member?
  • Do you have a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installed at your home, with internet access, and included on the eligible list below?
  • Do you have an Interconnection Agreement for your battery with Sawnee EMC?

If you answered yes to all three questions above, you may be eligible to participate in the Cooperative Battery Program.
