(CUMMING, GA) — For dedicated support and service to cooperatives, Sawnee EMC Director Mr. Marshall Millwood was named a 2025 Distinguished Cooperator by the Georgia Cooperative Council.
Mr. Millwood is a lifelong resident of the Chestatee community in Forsyth County, and was the founder and owner of Marjomil, Inc., a family-owned poultry business in Forsyth County. Presently, he takes part in managing the family cattle operation. He has served on the Sawnee EMC Board of Directors for over 32 years and was instrumental in leading the Cooperative during periods of extreme growth. During his tenure, Mr. Millwood has served Sawnee EMC as a member representative for Georgia EMC, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC) Board of Directors. During his time on the OPC board, he was involved in the process of bringing Plant Vogtle Nuclear Units 3 and 4 online, making a lasting impact on serving Georgia’s future energy needs.
In addition to his duties for Sawnee EMC, Mr. Millwood has been an active member in his community throughout the years. He served on the Forsyth County Hospital Authority and has been an active member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving as a deacon since 1980. Millwood is a U.S. Veteran and honorably served his country in Vietnam.
Michael Goodroe, Sawnee EMC’s President and CEO, presented the award to Mr. Millwood during the Georgia Cooperative Council’s Annual Meeting on March 17, 2025. “Mr. Millwood is well known and loved within his community. Throughout his distinguished EMC career, he is known as a person who is considerate, professional and honest, keeping the best interests of our members in mind,” states Goodroe.
The primary objective of the Georgia Cooperative Council is to promote, foster, and encourage all types of cooperative associations throughout the State of Georgia. The Council has members from a variety of companies, including the Farm Credit System, farm supply co-ops, rural telephone cooperatives, state and federal officials and electric cooperatives. Since 1989 the Council awards the Distinguished Cooperator Award to those individuals who have had a history of supporting Georgia cooperatives, thereby contributing to their continued success.
