CUMMING, Ga. — As summer temperatures rise, Sawnee EMC is encouraging members to take simple, practical steps to improve energy efficiency at home and manage electricity usage. From simple thermostat adjustments and air sealing to account tools and in-home energy support, Sawnee EMC offers a variety of resources designed to help members stay comfortable while using energy wisely.

“There is no better time to learn how to use energy wisely, than right now,” said Blake House, Vice President of Member Services. “Everyone is busy, and with everything going on it can be easy to overlook the impact that summer and air conditioning can have on energy bills. A few simple changes can make a meaningful difference in both comfort and cost.”

Sawnee EMC’s Energy Services team recommends setting thermostats at 78 degrees and raising the temperature by a few degrees when no one is home. Because air conditioning is often the largest source of summer electricity use, members can also lower cooling demand by sealing gaps around doors and windows, closing blinds and drapes on sun-facing windows during the day, and replacing dirty HVAC filters on a regular schedule. Other simple steps — such as grilling outdoors instead of using the oven and turning off unnecessary lights — can also help reduce indoor heat and lower energy use.

In addition to seasonal tips, Sawnee EMC provides members with year-round tools to better understand and manage their energy use. Through SmartHub, Sawnee’s online account management portal, members can review daily and hourly usage data before their bill arrives, making it easier to spot trends and adjust habits. Members can also explore Sawnee EMC’s Energy Solutions site, at www.sawnee.coop, for resources and additional guidance on HVAC performance, insulation, air sealing and other ways to improve home efficiency.

For members looking to take the next step, Sawnee EMC offers free in-home energy evaluations through its Energy Services team. During the visit, a representative performs a visual inspection and recommends ways to improve efficiency based on the home’s conditions. Members may also qualify for rebates and incentives on eligible efficiency upgrades, including attic insulation improvements, HVAC tune-ups, smart thermostats and other approved measures.

Members interested in scheduling a free energy audit or learning more about energy-saving programs can contact Sawnee EMC’s Customer Service Center at 770-887-2363.
