(CUMMING, GA) – Sawnee EMC has received multiple calls about utility scams impacting both commercial and residential members. Members are reporting that these calls have been presented as a warning that the member’s electricity is about to be shut off unless a payment is made immediately. The caller also states he or she will transfer the member to the Billing Department for payment. Sawnee EMC only takes payments via an automated system.
Below are a few things members should know about these types of scams:
- Sawnee EMC will never proactively call a member and demand payment over the phone.
- Sawnee EMC will never insist that a member pay their account balance immediately and request a credit or debit card number for payment over the phone.
- Sawnee EMC has a variety of payment options and members can always select the one that is best for them.
The staff of Sawnee EMC wants you to be aware that scam artists are everywhere these days, and we want you to be smart and play it safe so you don't fall victim to these attempts.
