Cumming, GA – Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee EMC), an electric cooperative providing reliable electric service to communities across northern Georgia, is proud to announce the launch of its “Cooperative Battery Program”.
This initiative gives eligible Sawnee EMC residential members with qualifying home battery storage systems an opportunity to support the cooperative during times of high electricity demand while earning incentives for participation.
As part of Sawnee EMC’s ongoing commitment to member engagement and innovative energy solutions, the Cooperative Battery Program enables participating members to enroll an eligible battery system located at their home and allow limited dispatch events during periods of high demand. These events help reduce peak energy use, support grid reliability, and could help lower future electricity costs for the cooperative and its members.
"At Sawnee EMC, our members are at the heart of everything we do," said Michael A. Goodroe, President and CEO of Sawnee EMC. "By working together, we can stand ready for the future and enhance our grid resilience while offering benefits to our members."
Sawnee EMC’s Cooperative Battery Program is open to qualified residential members who use a supported battery and have a compatible home battery storage system. At this time only members with Enphase battery systems may participate with additional battery systems to become eligible in the coming months. Participants remain in control and, if they choose to do so, may opt out of individual events or pause participation based on their current situation and program rules.
Here are just few of the program attributes:
- Enrollment: Members interested in joining the Cooperative Battery Program can learn more and enroll at www.sawnee.coop/battery.
- Participation Limitations: Participants will need an eligible battery system and may be asked to provide Sawnee EMC account information as well as battery and supporting equipment details during enrollment.
- System Compatibility: The program is available for qualifying home battery systems that use supported battery manufacturers. Members can review the list of supported manufacturers and battery models at our website.
- Incentives: Participating members may earn an enrollment incentive of $50 per kW of the battery’s continuous output capability, as defined by the battery specifications, along with an ongoing incentive of $1 per kWh discharged during program events.
